Bio

 

Tom Hall was born in Dublin in 1975. He attended Sandford Park School and briefly studied film at the Dun Laoghaire College of Art and Design. In 1995, he co-founded High-Hat Productions with fellow filmmaker John Carney. His first film as co-writer/director was the no-budget feature November Afternoon (Irish Times Film of the year 1997) and subsequent productions include the controversial Park (1999).

 

For Samson films he directed the T.V. movie Just in Time (1998) which was also acclaimed as the Times TV movie of that year.

 

His best known work is Bachelors Walk (2000-06), a comedy/drama series for Accomplice Television which was funded by RTE, the IFB and BBC Choice. It ran for three series and an Xmas special and won the IFTA award for best television show in 2002. Tom was one of three co-creators/writers/directors on all twenty episodes. In 2005 he worked as a director on The Last Furlong for Great Western Films and RTE. 2009 saw the completion of Wide Open Spaces a Grand Pictures Production from a screenplay by Arthur Mathews. Most recently he has completed post-production on another feature, the eagerly anticipated Sensation, from his own script. Tom is currently directing a six part comedy series entitled Trivia for broadcast on RTE in the spring of 2011.

 

Tom has worked with many leading film industry figures in Ireland and has taught screenwriting and directing courses at Colaiste Dhulaigh and NUI Galway.

 

Tom is also an award-winning writer of fiction, a critic, columnist and one time screen editor of The Dubliner magazine.
