Bio

 

Director / editor Shaun O’ Connor’s work has screened all over the world and won awards at various festivals, including the DC Shorts Film Festival, the Corona Cork Film Festival, the Fastnet Short Film Festival, the Kerry Film Festival, the Charlie Chaplin Comedy Film Festival and the Irish Music Television Awards.

 

Shaun is currently directing material for RTE’s Republic of Telly and has just finished post-production on his newest short film ‘Disappear’ which will premiere at the Cork Film Festival.  In 2015 Shaun directed, shot and edited ‘Sketch’, a TV show for RTE which aired on St. Stephen’s night 2015. His short film ‘Pat’, starring Jon Kenny, Jack Walsh & John Creedon premiered at the Boston Irish Film Festival in March 2016 and its festival run is anticipated to continue internationally throughout the year . In 2014, Shaun won one of the RTE / IFB Storyland commissions and directed ‘(R)onanism’, a short series produced by the Oscar-winning Fantastic Films, featuring performances from Mark O’ Halloran (Garage / Adam & Paul) and Jack Walsh (Killinaskully).

‘(R)onanism’ was selected to screen at the 2015 Raindance UK Webfest where is was nominated for 'Best Ensemble Performance'.

 

In 2013, Shaun’s short film ‘Uisce Beatha’ won the ‘Filmmaker’s Choice’ Award at DC Shorts, the biggest short film festival on the East Coast of the US. It also won the award for ‘Best In Cork’ at the Corona Cork Film Festival, and was selected to screen at the Jameson Dublin Film Festival 2014, the Helsinki Film Festival and Raindance London, the largest independent film festival in Europe.

 

Three of his short films, ‘Rest My Bones’, ‘Nietzsche No. 5’ and ‘Uisce Beatha’ have been shown on RTE Shortscreen. In 2013, Shaun’s short film script for ‘Rest My Bones’ won an arts bursary award and was produced with the assistance the Cork City Arts Division.

In addition to his short film work, Shaun also has extensive experience in directing and editing music videos, ranging from local bands to working with national stars like Julie Feeney and Declan Sinnott. He also directs and edits work for major corporate clients, including Lidl and Concern. Shaun also wrote and released a radio play entitled ‘Disappear’.
