Bio

 

Maurice has been working in film and television since leaving college. After several years as an editor he made his debut as the director of an MTV Rocumentary on U2, at the beginning of the bands Zoo TV world tour. As a result Maurice spent two years on the road, ending up as the Artistic Director of that media intensive escapade. Since then Maurice has worked with pretty much every Irish musician of note and internationally he has directed work for such as The Rolling Stones, Neil Young, Foo Fighters, Garth Brooks, and Reba McEntire. The Brooks project followed the singer around the world for over a year on his first foray outside of America. The resulting programme was aired in the US on NBC and he has since produced music specials for PBS – A Celtic Celebration, a documentary on U2 called A Year in Pop for ABC and he completed the set of US networks with the CBS broadcast of U2 – Live from Slane.

 

Maurice has also forged a reputation in the world of museum installations. In 1996 Maurices design concept for Clevelands Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum beat off competition from no less than George Lucass world famous Industrial Light and Magic to produce and install a celebratory film honouring the Museums inductees, he wrote and directed the entire audio-visual experience for Harley-Davidsons Open Road Tour centenary celebration and recently finished working on a project celebrating the work of renowned architect, Moshe Safdie.

 

Other highlights include writing and directing an award winning documentary on the life and career of Irish sporting legend DJ Carey, producing and directing a platinum selling DVD for the Grammy winning Foo Fighters, and shooting the first ever performance of Brian Wilsons opus Smile in Londons Festival Hall. He has written and directed feature documentaries on Irish music legends Horslips (shown in competition at the Milan Documentary Festival) and Irish jazz legends the Buckleys. He has worked with the National Symphony Orchestra and the AXA International Piano Competition and over the years directed countless hours of television including five series of Irelands premier music show, Other Voices . . . the list goes on.

 

In 2009 Maurice directed his first feature film, A Kiss for Jed Wood (which Maurice also co-wrote with Barry Devlin) and a three part documentary series on the history of the Irish State, The Limits of Liberty. In early 2010 Maurice directed and edited Stand Up : Best Friend. Produced by Mark OHalloran and Cathleen Dore, Stand Up : Best Friend started out life as a series of viral internet pieces which proved so successful that they have since been re-edited into a complete programme which premiered at this years Galway Film Fleadh. Go figure.
