Bio

Mairtin is best known as director on the International Emmy Nominated film and TV series Beat Girl, which is in competition for Best Kids Series at the International Emmy awards in February 2014.

He makes films with heart. His mission is to make films that touch you emotionally, making you laugh or cry. Or preferably both. His short films Atrophy and Tart have won 4 awards to date between them and screened in dozens of festivals – highlights include Odense, Aesthetica, Belfast, Galway, Fastnet, Seoul, Porto, Cork, Chicago, Liverpool and Boston Irish and the inaugural Indiecork festival.

He directed the 6 part documentary series The Club for Setanta Ireland/Broadcasting Authority of Ireland in 2011, which is a documentary series following a ladies football team in Ireland.  He also directed a segment of the international collaborative feature film The Owner and it premiered in an audience including Mike Leigh, who stated it was a great example of scorched earth filmmaking and that it would be a cult hit. Mairtín currently has a record in the Guinness book of World records as a result of The Owner for Most Directors in a Feature Film, knocking Paris je t´Aime from that perch.

Amongst all the drama Mairtín directs award winning music videos, trying to make up for his abject failure to become a rock star.In 2013 his debut feature film, Beat Girl, was released in cinemas in Ireland, the UK and Portugal, tv in Israel and Scandinavia, iTunes, Hulu in the US, with further territorial deals to follow. (Content Media Corporation are sales agents).

In October 2013 it was nominated for an International Emmy for Best Kids Series after it was reversioned and broadcast.  The reversioning rights have also been sold to Electus in the US, who previously reversioned The Office and Ugly Betty for US TV.

He is currently in the edit on The EU funded short film Forget Me Nots, made as park of the Sharp Focus/Crossing the divide series where films are made with youth groups in border areas affected by the troubles.

He is also developing three features with three different writers, with a large sideboard of awards between them.
