Bio
Ian Power is an award winning writer / director of features, short films, and commercials from Dublin, Ireland. Graduating with a first from the Masters in Film at DIT, Ian began directing short films with Buskers, which won Best Short Film awards at the Galway Film Fleadh, the Cork Film Festival, and the Foyle Film Festival. Since then he has made a number of award-winning short films which include the Warner Brothers distributed The Wonderful Story of Kelvin Kind, winner of Best Short Drama at the Celtic Film and TV Festival, and Dental Breakdown, a comedy musical which has won numerous festival awards including a Remi Award at the Houston Film Festival, the Award of Excellence at the LA Film Awards, and Best Short Comedy at the Fastnet Film Festival. His first feature length film is The Runway, starring Academy Award Nominee for Best Actor Demián Bichir (A Better Life), Kerry Condon (The Last Station), and James Cosmo (Braveheart). The Runway is inspired by the true story of a South American pilot who crashed his plane in Co. Cork in 1983. Against all odds, the locals came together to build a runway to get him home.
The Runway premiered at The Galway Film Fleadh in 2010 where it picked up the award for Best Irish Feature. It had its European Premiere at the Rome Film Festival, and its US Premiere at the Palm Springs Film Festival where it was selected Best of Fest. Since then it has won seven awards from International Film Festivals and has secured theatrical distribution in the USA (Summer 2012), as well as Spain, France, Middle East, Mexico, and China, among others.
The Runway was selected for the Director’s Guild of America’s Finders Series in conjunction with the SDGI and enjoyed a successful screening at their headquarters in Los Angeles.
Ian has been directing commercials since 2001 and has also won awards for his work in this field. Previous clients include BT, The National Lottery, RTE, Axa, Invest NI, and Three Mobile.
